Probably lots of hecticity mixed with some boredom. I hope you're not getting too fried or encountering too many obstructions.
I forgot if you took a small side craft for exploring side canyons, or getting out to hike some - hope so.
Looking forward to hearing more from you. Clicked on a 'reply' button to see if that included a reply from you, but just lost the message I wrote, so here it is again. Maybe I don't know how to access your side of the conversation, so I'll try a few things after sending this off.
Wishing you have safe and exciting variants along the way. You've planned well for the 'unanticipated' events that will surely happen. I'll bet a great song comes from this. Maybe I'll try whittling away at one about 'My Great Friend and his Adventure' or something like that.
Looking forward to your safe return. Enjoy.
Regards, Steve
BTW: no idea which profile to useAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-527480542089243861.post-3120054946130559882012-07-19T11:45:25.853-07:002012-07-19T11:45:25.853-07:00Jon, I was pointed to your blog by Bob Stevens (De...Jon, I was pointed to your blog by Bob Stevens (DesDiv 62 staff aboard USS Tattnall in 1966-68). Being a "river rat" myself (Catawba River in North and South Carolina) I am vicariously enjoying your epic river journey! Your anticipation and preparation for "what could go wrong" proves there was some payoff to mid-watches on the bridge of a destroyer. You're an incredible writer and what interesting journeys you've taken us on. I'll never look at a river the same way again.
Take care of yourself and watch those Snake Heads. Have you heard about them yet? They're nasty snake like creatures that are called fish that have the teeth the size of a large rat. They have been released into our eco system by way of dumping and are taking over Florida and several other places. They’re south and east (Vermont/NY/Illinois) and working their way west. So be careful!
Can't wait for the next blog! I've never been a boat person. Being the son of a pilot my fascination has always been with things that fly. I've had the pleasure of flying in a Ford Trimotor, a WWII P51 Mustang on up to a Cessna Citation with a multitude of small aircraft and sail planes in between. Flew hang gliders for several years in my early twenties. Your trip sounds fascinating and I look forward to following your blog. Not sure this is appropriate for a river trip but none the less I wish you Fair Winds, Calm Seas and Gentle Tides!John Elwell, WMA63noreply@blogger.com
